Reflection

In the Packaging and Merchandising Design course, I had the opportunity to design packaging for the Myco Meat brand's vegetarian burger patty. This experience was particularly enriching because it involved collaboration with food science students, allowing us to integrate both design and scientific perspectives. Working with the food science students emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. Their insights into the nutritional and preservation requirements of the Myco Meat patty helped inform our design decisions, ensuring that the packaging not only attracted customers but also maintained product quality. We learned how to balance aesthetics and functionality, ensuring the packaging was both visually appealing and convenient for consumers. Sustainability was a key focus of the course, and we explored various eco-friendly materials and printing techniques to minimize environmental impact. This was particularly relevant to Myco Meat, as the brand positions itself as a sustainable alternative to traditional meat products. Understanding consumer behavior and preferences was also critical. We conducted market research to identify target demographics and their expectations, which guided our design choices, such as color schemes, typography, and messaging. One challenge we faced was ensuring that the packaging design aligned with both marketing goals and the practical requirements of the product. Regular feedback sessions with instructors and food science students were crucial in overcoming these challenges and refining our designs. Overall, this course was a valuable experience that enhanced my skills in packaging design and collaboration, preparing me for future interdisciplinary projects in the design field.
