Task 3A
Before beginning Task 3A, it is essential to prepare a comprehensive write-up consisting of 3000 words on a subject that you are familiar with. This write-up should be structured into three distinct chapters. Each chapter must be further divided into two subsections, accompanied by one compelling pull quote to highlight key insights or ideas.
Additionally, within the written text, you need to identify 16 specific areas suitable for visualization. These visual elements will enhance the clarity and impact of the content. The chosen medium for these visuals should align with the topic and overall theme of your write-up. For this task, the recommended medium is illustration, as it offers a creative and flexible approach to visual storytelling, making it an effective choice for a wide range of topics.

integrated illustrations, the final output will be engaging, informative, and
visually appealing.

I mistakenly chose the wrong size for my illustrations, which resulted in the overall appearance looking very blurry and unclear. This was quite frustrating, as I had invested a lot of time and effort into creating them, only to find that the final presentation didn’t meet the expected standard.
After a detailed discussion with my lecturer, I identified the root cause of the issue and gained a deeper understanding of how critical the right dimensions are in design. To ensure better visual quality, I decided to redraw all the illustrations from scratch. Although it was disappointing to abandon my original work, the decision proved to be the right one.
By carefully adjusting the dimensions and meticulously redrawing each part, the clarity and overall appeal of the illustrations improved significantly. When I finally saw the end result, the difference was striking. The visuals looked much more vibrant and professional compared to the earlier blurry versions. This experience taught me the value of paying close attention to details and the importance of making the extra effort to achieve excellence. It not only improved my technical skills but also boosted my confidence for future creative projects.
Progression of printing the book
After completing all the layout and design work, I moved on to the printing stage, which marked my first attempt at creating a physical mock-up book. I was genuinely excited about this milestone. I chose an old printing shop that appeared to have extensive experience. However, upon entering, no staff approached me, which left me slightly taken aback. Understanding they might be busy, I waited patiently.
Eventually, a staff member asked me to upload my PDF file to their system. Following his instructions, I did as requested, and he assured me that everything was good to go. He mentioned they would call me once the book was ready. The entire process, however, lacked proper communication. Unfortunately, the final product turned out to be far from what I had envisioned, leaving me quite disappointed.

After discussing the matter with my lecturer, I decided to try a second printing shop. This time, the experience was vastly different. The staff at the new shop opened my file in InDesign and carefully went through every detail with me. They asked questions and confirmed specifications such as the type of paper, the size of the book, and other crucial aspects. This clear and thorough communication gave me confidence in the final product. I knew exactly what to expect, unlike the confusion I experienced with the first shop.
This experience taught me the importance of clear communication, especially when working with external collaborators. In any creative process, what may seem obvious to one person might not be clear to another, and assumptions can lead to misunderstandings and unsatisfactory results. By ensuring proper communication, every party involved can align their expectations and ensure the outcome matches the vision.
I also learned the value of taking initiative to ask questions and clarify details, even if the other party doesn’t offer guidance upfront. It’s important to advocate for your work, especially when it involves translating digital designs into physical products.
Finally, this experience highlighted the significance of choosing the right collaborators. A good service provider will not only deliver what you ask for but also provide insights and suggestions that elevate the quality of the final product. The contrast between the two shops showed me how much of a difference professionalism and attentiveness can make in achieving the desired results.
Moving forward, I will approach similar projects with more preparedness, prioritize communication, and collaborate with those who value the importance of details as much as I do. This way, I can ensure my creative vision comes to life just as I imagined it—or even better.

One of the key takeaways is the importance of understanding every element of a project, from the materials used to the techniques applied. Details such as choosing the right paper texture, ensuring proper binding, or adjusting dimensions can make the difference between a project that feels polished and professional versus one that misses the mark. This attention to detail not only enhances the quality of the work but also elevates the user experience and overall presentation.
Equally important is the role of communication, especially when collaborating with others. I learned that assumptions can often lead to disappointment, and taking the time to clarify expectations can prevent costly mistakes. Being proactive, asking questions, and seeking alignment with collaborators ensures that the outcome aligns with the original vision.
These lessons have reinforced my belief in the value of resilience and adaptability in the creative process. Challenges and setbacks are inevitable, but they also present opportunities for growth and improvement. By refining my approach and staying committed to achieving the best possible results, I’ve grown both as a designer and as a problem-solver.
Looking ahead, I will focus on refining my planning, ensuring all aspects of my projects are carefully thought through, and maintaining open lines of communication with those involved. These experiences have not only improved my practical skills but also deepened my understanding of what it takes to bring creative ideas to life effectively and successfully.
