Project 1

Project Description:
After exploring media and information design, you will now create an infographic that visually represents a series of different processes, focusing on design rather than text.

Objective:
Analyze the “delivery mechanisms” that influence the effectiveness of an infographic. While content is important, this project primarily examines what makes an infographic successful or ineffective. Content is just one of many factors, including visual hierarchy, typography, color, and overall design.

Part 1: Infographic Poster (20%)
Instructions:
  1. Select an infographic poster from the internet
  2. Redesign the poster in A4 size, starting with sketches of your ideas and process.
  3. Improve and simplify the design based on visual hierarchy and typography.
  4. Further refine the poster by optimizing color, shape, and patterns.
  5. Upload your final poster to your E-Portfolio along with an explanation and reflective writing.

Part 2: Minimal Animated Infographic (20%)
Instructions:
  1. Transform your infographic poster into a simple looped animation.
  2. The animation should last between 15-30 seconds.
  3. Create the animation in 1080 x 1920 px (vertical video) format and upload it to your YouTube channel.
Before I began animating my poster, I took the time to research and gather various references to gain more inspiration and a clearer direction. Looking at different animation styles and techniques helped me explore creative possibilities and determine the best approach for enhancing my design. These references provided valuable insights into how motion, transitions, and visual effects could be used effectively to make my infographic more engaging and dynamic. By studying these examples, I was able to refine my ideas and develop a stronger vision for the final animation.

Here is the progress when I'm doing the animation:

Initially, I didn’t stop the year circle in the top left corner, allowing it to keep moving. However, I noticed that while the album had come to a stop, the year continued to move, which felt somewhat inconsistent. To create a more balanced and cohesive visual effect, I decided to pause the year along with the album. And I also change the bgm that more suitable with Jenny's poster.

Feedback :

The transformation of my static infographic into an animated version allowed me to bring my design to life. By incorporating motion, I was able to create a more dynamic and engaging visual experience. The use of transitions helped guide viewers through the timeline smoothly, making the historical events more immersive.

One of the key improvements I made during the process was adjusting the movement of the year circle in the top left corner. Initially, it continued moving while the album had stopped, which created a sense of inconsistency. By pausing the year along with the album, I was able to achieve a more balanced and visually cohesive animation. Additionally, I revised the background music to better match the theme and tone of the animation, ensuring that it complemented the overall storytelling.

However, there are still areas for improvement. The pacing of certain elements could be refined to ensure that viewers have enough time to absorb the information without feeling rushed. Additionally, incorporating more subtle motion effects, such as smooth fades and transitions, could further enhance the overall flow of the animation.

Reflection:

This project has been a valuable learning experience, allowing me to explore the intersection of information design and animation. Through the process of researching references, experimenting with different techniques, and refining my animation, I gained a deeper understanding of how motion can enhance the clarity and engagement of an infographic.

One of the most important takeaways from this exercise was the need for consistency in animation. Small details, such as the movement of the year circle, significantly impact the visual balance and overall cohesiveness of the animation. Adjusting this element helped me recognize the importance of synchronizing motion with content to create a more polished final product.

Additionally, selecting the right background music played a crucial role in setting the mood of the animation. Matching the audio to the theme of the poster ensured that the animation felt more immersive and well-integrated.

Moving forward, I aim to further improve my motion design skills by experimenting with more advanced techniques, such as easing effects and layered animations, to create smoother and more natural movements. This project has deepened my appreciation for the power of animation in information design, and I look forward to applying these insights to future projects.
